Bedfordshire Walking Festival 2010 ***Updated***

The programme for the second Bedfordshire Walking Festival is now available as a pdf file. Following a very successful event last year the second Bedfordshire Walking Festival will take place from Saturday 4th September to Sunday PM 12th September. That's 9 consecutive days of walking opportunities and in an area easy to get to by Road, Rail, Air and Water. Organised by Bedfordshire Ramblers, the walks are ideal for people or groups wanting to come for a day or a short break. The programme offers walks from 3.5 mile interest walks and ambles to longer 5 to 7 mile morning and afternoon walks plus full day walks of 10 to 16 miles. All walks are free including the ones organised by Bedford Borough Council and Bedford tourist Information Centre. For something more challenging, why not join the 40 Mile 3 day Greensand Ridge Trail across the middle of the county. For those using public transport there are railway walks and walks using buses from Bedford. Bedfordshire has a great network of useable footpaths and with 3 distinctive walking areas Bedfordshire is well worth exploring at any time but even better during the Bedfordshire Walking Festival.

Bridge the Gap Charity Walk - Sunday 12th September 2010

From Amanda Scarborough:

Would you like to join the band of Walkers who regularly help make the Bridge the Gap Walk a very successful and enjoyable day for all concerned, especially the two charities who benefit?

On 12th September this year, it's the Bridge the Gap Charity Walk, a five mile walk through historic Cambridge. It starts at 9.30 on Jesus Green, and the route goes through a number of colleges, often into areas not normally accessible to the public. This year there will also be the chance to explore the Scott Polar Museum and the Cambridge Union Building. There are tourist guides on hand to talk about the colleges and the other places of interest that you find.

It's not a race, and for young people aged 16 and under, entrance is free (although they will need to be accompanied by an adult and if they register early, the cost will be just £10.00 for each adult. We also ask that you help us raise as much money as your can, through sponsorship or donations. There are fantastic prizes for the highest fund raiser, either as an individual or as a team.

For more information, go to our website or phone 01223 723115.

A quick summary of the charities that you will be helping:

The Arthur Rank Hospice charity supports patients and their families at Arthur Rank House and in the community. They need to raise over 1 million pounds each year to fund Day Therapy and Hospice at Home nurses.

Press Relief was founded in 2003. It uses the influence of the Cambridge News and other publications within the newspaper group to raise cash for local organisations and individuals in need. So far it has raised over £400,000 which it has given to a whole range of groups and individuals in the Cambridge area.

We look forward to seeing you on 12th September.
